Secrets of spawning squid
This striking image was taken on a recent trip to Lizard Island. These squid (Sepioteuthis lessoniana) are often seen on the Great Barrier Reef but they are difficult to approach underwater and their ability to blend in with their background makes them very difficult to photograph.

SKELETONS on the beach
So much innovative research is stimulated by chance observations of the marine environment! During one of my daily trips to Alma Bay last week, I noticed a large number of cuttlefish skeletons washed up on the beach (these are the white things that look like a little speed boat).

It's 14 years since I last visited Maggy. I am shocked by Nelly Bay and saddened. It is insensitive, ugly and juxtaposed to the essence of Maggy. I embrace progress in general, but this is poorly conceived and executed. Shame.
