Magnetic Island announced as conference destination

Councillors Tony Parsons and Trevor Roberts Townsville City Councillors Trevor Roberts and Tony Parsons were on Magnetic Island today announcing that the Island had been chosen to host a North Queensland Local Government Association (NQLGA) conference next year.

More than 120 delegates from 22 councils stretching from Mackay to Cape York and west to Mt Isa are expected to attend the conference, to be held over two days during the first week of November 2011.

As Townsville City Council’s NQLGA delegate, Cr Parsons said the conference offered delegates the chance to share ideas and discuss issues affecting the north.

“The conference provides the opportunity to come and hear about new ways of doing things and for the representatives to tackle the issues that are most pertinent to our region,” Cr Parsons said.

Councillor representing Magnetic Island, Trevor Roberts, said the conference would bring economic benefit to island businesses.

“The location for the conference is still to be decided but in addition to the council delegates, there are numerous presenters and other representatives that will be in attendance.

“There will be spin off for island businesses as attendees will spend on accommodation, tours, food and entertainment.

“Many of the attendees are expected to extend their stay so the benefits could be lucrative. It offers a terrific opportunity for Magnetic Island to show why the island is considered the jewel of the north.”

Well, this will guarantee another "spruce up" around the Island - but will we get anything useful for our ratepayers money, like the Nelly-Arcadia Walkway, or just another quick makeover that really just wastes money?

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
