Carols by Candlelight

Carols by Candlelight at Alma Bay It's definitely that time of year again. Shirts are sticking to their owners' backs, Christmas beetles are about, the tourists are fewer and Carols by Candlelight returns again to Alma Bay on Thursday 10th December from 7:00 PM sharp, finishing before 8:30 PM.

According to the organisers, there will be lots of popular carols for everyone to sing. The very excellent Townsville Brass Band will lead the carols supported by song-leader Darin and a supporting Choir. The Magnetic Island State School will present the Christmas pageant. The talented Turnbull children and a Townsville singer will also be giving vocal items.

While Carols by Candlelight is presented freely by the churches of Magnetic Island to our community, an offering is taken up for the Christmas Bowl Appeal. This will allow us to share with impoverished and hungry people overseas.

There will be plenty of seating but bring a rug to sit on the grass if you wish. If the weather is unkind the event will move to the RSL Hall in Hayles Avenue Arcadia.

If you bring your own candles,* parents please supervise and preferably ask the children to stay in the family party.

However this year the Childcare & Kindergarden Assoc. have asked to have a stall for their own funds near Carols by Candlelight. They will have battery operated candles for sale and also a sausage sizzle and sale of soft drinks. Their stall will be open in time for you to have a snack there before the carols but the stall will close at 6:45 PM before the Carols begin at 7:00 PM sharp.

*To make candles safe and protected from the wind, use half a soft drink bottle with the candle in the neck, or a milk bottle (with handle) with the candle through the bung. Even a circle of cardboard with the candle through the centre will protect from hot wax.

Carols by Candlelight is an alcohol and smoking free event and is presented by the Ecumenical Committee of the Magnetic Island Churches.

Lovely photo of everyone at last years event. I much prefer the small community celebrations - they seem to be what it's all about. I wish everyone a safe, happy and modest Christmas. Good food and good friends are much better than big pressies and bigger credit card hangovers.
