A great fete raises nearly $15,000

Janey and Murray keeping it clean at the sausage sizzle With their target of $15,000 almost reached and a huge fun day for the entire community, the Magnetic Island School Fete, held last Saturday, was an outstanding success.

Fete Convener, Janine Cox told Magnetic Times, “We are very excited to announce the money we have raised was just shy of our target of $15000.00. This is a huge effort for an island of our size and I commend and thank all of our sponsors (listed below) for their donations of prizes or assistance.”

Janine was also keen to thank, “Our students who assisted during preparation and on the day to help run stalls, our stall conveners and their helpers for running their stalls so professionally, my husband Sam for his expertise as MC throughout the day and as auctioneer for our art auction which was a huge success.”

With visits from Townsville City Councillors, Trevor Roberts and Vern Veitch and State Member for Townsville, Mandy Johnstone, who opened the Fete and was on hand to plant trees by Gustav Creek, the Fete again proved itself as a major event with Magnetic pulling power.

Cr Vern Veitch was very "shovel ready"

Mandy Johnstone told Magnetic Times, “I had a fantastic afternoon at the Fete.  My daughter had her first ride on a horse, I bought some jewellery from the craft stall and we had fun in the haunted house.  It was great to listen to Aquapella as well.
"Not only was it a great school event but I was also really pleased to participate in tree planting for the revegitation of Gustav Creek adjacent to the school.
"Congratulations to the Fete Convenor, Janine Cox and to the broader school community for a successful event."

Janine said, “With this fete the emphasis was to fundraise with ‘creativity, art & fun’ and I believe we achieved this by providing many low cost stalls for the littlies and families to enjoy themselves such as: mini golf, splat boards, haunted house, spooky tunnels, face painting, obstacle courses, tabloid sports, pony rides thanks to ‘Horseshoe Bay Ranch’ and of course the ‘Melville’s Animal Farm’ sponsored by Solar City.

Janine was also keen to acknowledge, “Last, but by no means least, thanks to all of our island residents and visitors who came along and purchased goods from our many stalls or simply enjoyed the entertainment provided.

“The list goes on and on,” said Janine, “Special thanks to the Magnetic Island Rotary Club and Gloria Maat for keeping the crowds well fed during the day and Muso’s for pumping up the volume.”

Magnetic Times was unfortunately a bit stretched to cover the Fete on the day and we didn't get too many photos. So, if you have some nice snaps you would like to see with the others on the website, send them to Our only warning is that photos of kids must have the approval of their parents before we publish.

MISS principal Ros Browne was all smiles

Had the best time meeting so many friendly people and being part of the Magnetic Island State School Fete. We are Janine Cox's parents and of course very proud of both Janine and Sam for their solid Community support. We sold tickets in the wheelbarrow raffle and amazed at how generous the Island people were. There are so many benefits of living in a small community and love every moment of our visit's to the Island.
