"Exotic east" on Townsville's doorstep

Sunferries Stephanie Cairns at the launch Last week Sunferries launched its new "Head East" promotion to remind locals there is a tropical island on their doorstep. And while some wags were quick to point out that Magnetic Island is actually north of Townsville (Captain Cooks compass went wacky too) the campaign, which promotes tours and activities on the Island into a day trip package, is a timely fillip for Island businesses struggling at the end of the wettest wet in recorded history and the oncoming global recession.

Sunferries' Marketing Manager, Julie Johnstone, told Magnetic Times, "Many people have traditionally jetted off to exotic eastern destinations, but with the current economic climate and growing security concerns about international travel, the campaign is aimed at reminding people there is tropical island right here on their doorstep.

For the "Wags" South Townsville is not on the south side of Townsville either. Who cares.
Congratulations to Darren and the Sunferries team for a great initiative.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
