Maggie Magpies AFL News
Following is the end of season report from the under 13s local AFL Club.
Congratulations to our whole team for finishing the season second on the ladder, however unfortunately we were defeated in the Preliminary Final against Hermit Park Tigers Black on Saturday.
We tried really hard, but the Tigers were the better team on the day. In the first quarter we only allowed the Tigers to score one behind despite being outnumbered by two players for the first few minutes of the game. The Tigers came back in the second and third quaters and we were only able to answer with two goals of our own, scored by Mitch and Zac. Our thirteen players put in hard for a whole match and did really well against a team who could field 21 players, so accordingly they could send fresh interchange players on throughout the game where we could not.
A lion-hearted effort throughout the season and through into the finals, a tougher brand of footy. All season we have been short on numbers in this age group and have not had the luxury of interchange players, so would like to acknowledge the consistent efforts of the under 11 players who have made up the team to play week after week and achieve so highly this year.
We are so proud of you all, you can hold your heads high confident that you enjoy the game and play it skillfully, displaying a true team spirit, strong focus and exemplary sportsmanship. Amazing acheivement for our small community to reach the finals for the third year in a row, and for the fourth time in our club's seven year history.
U13s players: Breanna Koenen (Captain), Zac Chilcott, Gavin Crouch, Jack Dunn, Mitchell Hillyear, Angus Kininmonth, Angus Turnbull, Puku Baker, Patrick McDermott, Robert Naudi, William Cook, (and Riley Young for most of the year, plus John-Henry Hero for a short time). U11s who played consistently to make up the team: Matthew Chilcott, Mitchell Nugent, Alex Winn, Jake Hillyear, Anna Staib.
Thanks to Stuart Head, U13s Coach, and Cam Hillyear, Assistant Coach while Stuart was umpiring; and to all our parents and volunteers across the three teams involved in making our club really special.
This year we had 48 players registered and 30 families involved across three age group teams, see you at Alma Bay for the end of year Presentation Day on Sunday 7th September. Special thanks to our sponsors from our small community who support and encourage our players year after year. Go Magpies!
