Maggie Magpies' AFL News

Friday night Rex felt a bit sick and wanted to go to bed, but he said he had to fill up all the water bottles first ,"for the team". That's team dedication Rex. Thanks.

Thanks to Telstra we now also have a water bottle for everyone. We will hand these out at training this week. Please take your water bottle home after training and look after it and bring it full to every game as well as training. If you don't find your name on one see Cheryle or email Ceo@DettecElectronics.com. The players have been enjoying cut watermelon/oranges at half time.

The trial trip over on the barge went well, the kids sang about how much they loved their warm jumpers as it was a bit chilly on the top deck.

Notes on Saturday 24.05.08 matches
Under 9s
The whole team travelled to town to play the Hawks. Great effort! Ethan played a good solid game, Jesse took some fantastic marks - a running flying mark on the wing, & another mark running full speed with his back to the ball. Amazing! Zane kicked a beautiful goal. Cale scored two goals. Perry Taylor won the player of the match for tireless and great game skills. This week at training Coach is going to give the team more practice in 'manning up'. Magpies 18, 1 to Hawks 24, 3.

Under 11s
The Hawks put up a great defense, we saw some fantastic skills from their no. 15 player. Leighton kicked a good goal under immense pressure. Dirk took some excellent marks. Tom P went fearlessly into the pack of Hawks to retrieve the ball from beneath. Tom, Dirk, and Jake Hillyear all played a tough defense. Excellent strong marks by Anna, she stood tall in defense and passed the ball beautifully to Tom C who won the player of the match trophy for courage in the face of bigger, older players. Magpies 27 to Hawks 7.

Under 13s
Another relatively easy game for the Mapies against the under-manned Barras. The game was played in good spirits, with some competition from both teams. Many goal scorers for Magpies - Zac, Gavin, Mitch, Bre, Angus, Paddy and Riley. Final scores: 18:10 to nil. A tougher match this week against Bulldogs Blue. (Report: Natalie Crouch)

Special fitness training for U13s Mondays at 4.30pm at MISS. Enquiries to Stuart 4778 5619. Training is on Thursday at 4.30 - 5.45 pm at the Sports & Rec Club at Horseshoe Bay.

See you at the ferry terminal at 7.45am 31/05/08 - vs U9s Lions @ 8.45, U11s Bombers @ 8.45 & U13s Bulldogs Blue @ 9.45; at Castle Hill PCYC Garbutt ($11 each week please for away games). All players need to wear full team uniform, bring plenty of water and mouthguards, and have an early night on Friday.
