Magnetic Island pensioners who live with the increased costs of an Island address are more than likely to be interested in the increasing pensioner activism over the small increases to their income from the latest federal budget. News from the Australian Pensioners Forum held in Brisbane this week follows.

Over one hundred pensioners gathered at the APSL headquarters in Brisbane's West End on Tuesday to voice their concerns over the delay in action by governments to help bring pensioners out of what they describe as, "fast becoming a situation of 'poverty' for so many."

The meeting resolved, in recognition of seniors' past contributions and services towards the development of the Australian economy into a prosperous and stable nation, to support a national campaign to improve the quality and wellbeing of pensioners and seniors' lifestyles throughout the community.

The Forum called upon the Federal Government to honour their social inclusion policy in the interests of pensioners and seniors by implementing the following:

What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
