Go the Magpies for 2008

With the Australian Football League season just started for 2008, Magnetic Times is pleased to post the following AFL News as provided by the Magnetic Island Magpies Junior AFL committee.

AFL News

Under 9s
Welcome to our new players and families. It was an exciting start to the season with all teams playing and winning great matches against Hermit Park Tigers Gold at Murray Stadium. Thanks to our players who assisted the opposition to make up numbers, and also for playing a second match for our Under 11's team. Congratulations to the U9's team particularly, especially as half of our players were playing their first AFL game ever!

Under 11s
Good consistent team effort from everyone with our new players slotting in well. Thanks to Matthew, Alex, Jake & Mitchell for playing in the U13's game as well. Goals: Matthew (2), Jake (2), Alex, Dirk & Tom. (Final Score: 7.8:50 to 5.4:34).

Under 13s
A great effort from all players, with strong marking and excellent kicking to position. Goals: Zac (3), Bre (3),Mitch H (2), Alex (2), Riley (2), Paddy, Gavin. Final Score: 14.13:97 to 2.5:17.

Special fitness training for U13s Mondays at 5pm at MISS. Enquiries to Stuart 4778 5619.

We will be playing on both Saturdays and also training as usual during the forthcoming school holidays. Parents please note: with a change to ferry and bus charges this year, when we play matches in town players will need to bring $11 to cover the costs of transport; also a further reminder about Mouthguard appointments and outstanding Registration fees - see Natalie.

Training is on Thursday at 4.30 - 5.45 pm at the Sports & Rec Club at Horseshoe Bay.

See you at Horseshoe Bay at 8.15am Saturday for 3 matches against the Thuringowa Bulldogs team. All welcome to come along to cheer us on - Sausage sizzle. All players need to wear full team uniform, bring plenty of water and mouthguards, and have an early night Friday night.

Go Magpies!
