Meet the candidates

Magnetic Island Community Development Association President, Lorna Hempstead, has advised that the Association along with Magnetic Island Residents and Ratepayers Associationhave been working in concert to create opportunities to meet just about all the candidates (or teams) for the forthcoming local government elections on the Island.

The details are as follows:
Saturday 23rd February at the International Resort, Mandalay Avenue, Nelly Bay at 9.45am for 10am: Meet Community Voices Team, independents Adrienne Isnard, Doug Kingston (confirmed) and as many of the independents who have nominated as we can muster.

Saturday 1st March at the RSL, Hayles Ave, Arcadia. 9am for 9.15am: Tony Mooney Team, and 10am Team Tyrell.

All candidates and teams are being asked to address the future and their visions for Townsville and Magnetic Island. There will be opportunities for questions at both meetings

Please note that there are different venues for each of the meetings and there is NO NEED to reply - just come along.

Can someone tell me if the voting is compulsary and if so, is the council providing postal voting for those of us who live interstate.

MIRRA hosted the Lindsay/Colbran preelection meetings on Saturday 6 October 2007. Likewise, MIRRA has been planning the Mooney/Crisafulli (perhaps Tyrell) for some months. The "concert" planned by Ms Hempstead is a surprise to MIRRA. MIRRA will continue to singleminded pursue the best interests of the ratepayers and residents of Magnetic Island. They are welcome to participate again at 9.15 am on Saturday 1st March at the RSL Hall in Arcadia.

Mr McKenzie,
Voting is compulsory if you are on the Australian Electoral Commission roll at an address in Townsville. Since you "live interstate", then your home address is not in Townsville and you won't be on the electoral roll in Townsville.
Mr Williams,
MIRRA, through its representative Mr Vernon, was in the MICDA email loop along with MINCA and possibly others - in the perhaps forlorn hope of reducing singlemindedness. I'm sure no surprise was intended. Ho hum.
