Meter snappers on the prowl

Ergons Julie Heath Your electrical meter box may not be the most attractive feature of your house but, starting from today, don't be surprised if you see an Ergon staffer pulling out a camera and taking a snap of it.

The meter photography is an early stage of the the Solar Cities project, so don't expect an exciting exhibition. The subject of every photo will be the same: the inner workings of electricity meter boxes.

Ergon Energy is replacing your old meters with new smart meters as part of the Townsville: Queensland Solar City project.

The photos will allow offsite technicians to check that the new, longer models will fit properly into each box.

Beginning on Tuesday 29 January, uniformed Ergon Energy staff will access your property over the next few months to photograph your meter for Ergon records only.

Ergon's Community Engagement Manager Solar City, Julie Heath, told Magnetic Times, "We photographed a random sample of meter boxes late last year, however we now need pics of all the meters to allow us to progress the Magnetic Island part of the Solar Cities project.

"We do not need to enter your house or business and, as with regular meter-reading, you don't need to be home. But if you have a dog on the property and have not informed us, we'd appreciate a call on 13 10 46."

For further information on the project, please call Ergon Energy Solar Cities Community Engagement Manager Julie Heath on 4727 6397 or 040 886 2520.

Syl Hayes In reply to Fair raises $15,000 for school
What a wonderful outcome for the school! I had a great time face-painting with Luke and Sasha, met lots of kids and parents, scored some great books at the Trash n Treasure stall, and even remembered to vote. Everywhere you looked people were enjoying themselves...such a tribute to the organisers. Well done!
