A young koala's beach adventure

November 25th 2006
Rent-a-crowd required (rooms for free)

With Channel Nine's Getaway program visiting Magnetic Island next week Base Backpackers are hoping to provide the show with a taste of a full-moon party and are looking for a crowd of willing party-goers to pack their bar to the rafters.

So as to comply with their licensing restrictions Base are offering 20 rooms free accommodation to any locals interested in a fun night at the party base.

Getaway, Channel Nine's national travel program will be on Magnetic Island next week filming with host, Natalie Gruzlewski and shooting stories on the Forts Walk, GoElectric Island bikes and Base Backpackers. But at Base Backpackers, Getaway is looking for a lively and exciting Magnetic Island experience including a Full Moon Party.

Full Moon parties are not traditionally held on a Tuesday night - so licensing restrictions mean Base can only serve alcohol to guests at this time, so they have generously offered 20 rooms free of charge for anyone wanting to enjoy the party with DJ Christian Biko.

Ferry transfer for the night can also be arranged through Base but places are limited. Entry will be on a first come, first served basis.

Sorry to sound curmudgeonly, but from my experience, Islanders were (are?) becoming less and less enamoured with the Full Moon parties - crowded, unpleasant ferry trips, nightime noise, damage and litter. Do we really want to 'sell' Magnetic Island as a place for young people to get off their face, see nothing more natural that a strip of sand, and destroy the peace?
