Community Development Assoc AGM tomorrow

MICDA President Lorna Hempstead Non-members as well as members are invited to the Annual General Meeting of the MI Community Development Association which will be held tomorrow, Wednesday, 18 June at the MI RSL Hall in Hayles Ave, Arcadia starting at 7pm.

According to President Lorna hempstead, "As ever we will attempt to keep the business short."

To make the AGM more of an interesting occasion, two guest speakers have been invited top talk about their recent activities prior to the AGM.

The first is Megan Absolon, Island resident and museum conservator who has recently returned from a "summer" in Antarctica working on the conservation of Mawson's Hut. Enjoy her lively presentation on the work - and what it's like to live permanently in sub-zero temperatures!

Keeping the 'cool' theme, Julie Heath from Solar Cities / Magnetic Island will give an update on the Solar Cities programme and some tips to stay cool in summer - more energy efficiently (and cheaply!)

The formal AGM follows.

The Community Development Association is always looking to attract more members and people from the community who may be interested to volunteer some of their time to activities which benefit the Island.

Lorna Hempstead is keen to engage more of the membership in MICDA's activities which include: Information stall at the monthly Horseshoe Bay Markets; Bay Days Festival; Butts out campaign; distrbution of World Heritage brochures; Clean-up Maggie (midwinter or spring); Christmas lights competition; Townsville Port Authority Community Forum; membership renewals and community photocopier monitoring.

There are also a number of important working groups within MICDA including: Tourism Working Group; heritage infrastructure & Planning: Bike Riders and Pedestrian/walkers issues group.

"Everyone is welcome," says Lorna, "You do not have to be a member to attend."
